Crazy Lixx “Ruff Justice” album review

Formed 15 years ago, Crazy Lixx return this year with their fifth studio album, “Ruff Justice”. This will be the first Crazy Lixx album to feature the new lineup of Chrisse Olsson and Jens Lundgren on guitars, after the departure of guitarist Edd Liam and songwriting guitarist Andy Zäta in 2015. 

My favourite song here is the opening song “Wild Child”which had me singing along on the first play. After that, the entire album was a solid, no filler release. The main highlights include “Shot With a Needle Of Love”, the harmony filled ballad “If It’s Love” which shows Danny Rexon’s vocal talents in full. The upbeat “Kiss Of Judas” has some of the albums more impressive  guitar solos.

As well as drawing their inspirations from 80’s sleaze and hard rock, the album also draws some inspiration from 80’s horror, as shown both lyrically and in the video for “Wild Child.” In Fact, Ruff Justice includes two songs which will be featured on the “Friday The 13th” videogame soundtrack: “XIII” and “Live Before I Die”. Friday the 13th: The Game is an upcoming survival horror video game developed by Gun Media and IllFonic, and published by Gun Media. It is scheduled for release in early 2017 for Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4

This album is sleaze rock, with its roots firmly in the 80’s. But that’s fine, because who doesn’t love 80’s rock?

Final verdict: 7.5 out of 10.

There isn’t a filler track here at all, and there are a few songs that particularly stand out. I’d say if you enjoy sleaze rock, Firehouse, Dokken, or Nasty Idols, this is a band to check out.
