Chasing Violets – Outside Heaven

The first thing you’ll notice about this album, before you even place the disc in the player, is the sheer number of musicians that play on this album, and the high quality of the players. For example, Paul Sabu (Only Child) handles all instruments and adds his vocals too, along with

  • Tommy Denander, (Michael Jackson, Paul Stanley, Alice Cooper, Don Henley, Sheryl Crow,David Coverdale, Carlos Santana, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Toto, Richard Marx, Robin Beck, House Of Lords, Michael Schenker, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, Kenny Loggins, Kelly Keagy, Jimi Jamison)
  • Vocalist Goran Edman (Yngwie Malmsteen, John Norum, Brazen Abbot, Rheingold)
  • Guitarist Tim Manford (Dante’s Fox)
  • Joey Summer
  • Keyboardist Eric Ragno (Ted Poley, Farcry, Takara, Seven Witches, Micheal Bormann, Tony Mills, Danny Vaughn)
  • Alessandro Del Vecchio (Lionville, Hardline, Danger Zone)
  • Mike Baird (Hall And Oates, Airborne, Richard Marx, Michael Bolton, Rick Springfield, Eddie Money, Kenny Loggins, and Journey)
  • Frederic Slama (AOR)

and many more besides. The combined expereince  and skill of these musicians puts you in expectation of a very high quality experience – which is exactly what you get.

However, the heart and soul of this album remains the Fontaine sisters, Sarah and Melissa Fontaine. The two of them sing beautifully throughout, and have a very soft soothing quality to them. This album, mastered by Alessandro Del Vecchio and produced by Frederic Slama, is an all round beautiful piece of music, with excellent vocals, some great guitar work, and gorgeous synths that I think will appeal to fans of  Heart, Dante’s Fox, and Giant.

My personal highlights were the upbeat “Above Suspicion”, “When The Darkness Falls”, the very catchy “You Won’t Hurt Me Anymore”, and “Cease Fire” which features some very good haunting solo’s by Tim Manford Of Dante’s Fox, and the very punchy “Just Wanna Be Your Heroin”,which was written by Melissa and Sarah Fontaine.

Overall, this is an album that more than lives up to the expectations created by the reputations of those involved. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it, and I think you will too.
