Ian Hill – Keep On Rockin’ On!

I was surprised at just how much I wanted to hear this album again once it finished.

When this album first started playing, I had to go check that I had put the right disc in the player as my ear’s were telling me I’d put a Status Quo album on. Even though I knew this was Ian Hill, my senses kept telling me throughout the album that I was rockin’ out to classic Quo.

Ian Hill himself says that ‘this is a collection of original songs recorded as a tribute to Status Quo’, although with one listen, you don’t need to be told – it’s that obvious, and could have been written and recorded by Quo themselves.

From the very first song “Ain’t Life Strange” the album has a definite feel good factor that makes you feel good and happy. The guitars strike an upbeat rhythm that carries on throughout this entire album.

For me the highlights on this album were the songs “Ain’t Life Strange” and “Walking Home Alone”.As someone who mainly listens to melodic rock, power and classical/gothic metal, I was surprised at just how much I wanted to hear this album again once it finished.

So, I thought, how would it be viewed by long time Status Quo fans?

I played it again that night when some friends came round, including 2 long time Quo fans, and as soon they heard it, they mistakenly thought I’d put some Quo on at first. They were delighted when I showed them the album, and I think at least one of them left intending to buy the album for themselves. A good result then, in my opinion.

We definitely recommend this album as perfect for listening to when having some friends around, for driving down the motorway, or just for dancing around your living room by yourself shredding that imaginary air guitar.

We give it a 7/10.
